The Slanted Door
Hello Everyone,In checking our review-to-do list, it was staring us in the face; we’ve yet to do a Vietnamese restaurant, so for our first, we decided on the The Slanted Door, located in the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
When it comes to a night out of fine dining at a restaurant that offers, great tasting food, stylish décor, spectacular views along with your desire for some good Vietnamese food, you may want to consider The Slanted Door.
As you stroll into the Slanted Door, it’s chic, lots of energy with attentive service that begins when you walk in the door. The restaurant dining room offers plenty of seating to accommodate 150 patrons along with additional space in the heated patio area. In addition there’s a large bar area, (great for after work drink) that also has a large cocktail lounge with additional seating. The crowd that evening was a good mix of family, business, dates, very lively with all enjoying there night out.
As always, we started out viewing the cocktail list SD has to offer. There list is extensive, whether you’re in the mood for a mixed drink, wine, beer or your favorite coffee or tea, you will have plenty to choose from. Personally, I went with a chill drink and ordered up a Singapore Sling to quench my thirst. . Yummy.
Since there were six of us, we thought it would be good to order and do some sharing so we don’t miss out on anything good. For openers we started with mesquite grilled lamb sausage and kusshi oysters served with Chinese black olive and a zesty relish. I also tried one of the barbecued pork spareribs that had a tasty honey sauce, really good. I noticed a few others on the table the FF team enjoyed like the seared scallops served in a spicy red curry.
For my meal, it was a tough decision between the Halibut and Tiger Prawns; our server was very informative and attentive, giving us several food options a however, I abandon both of my original choices and went for the cellophane noodles with Dungeness crab meat; very tasty and fresh. I also added an order of star route farm baby spinach, included were some caramelized shallots – if you’re a spinach lover like me this is a must, a wonderful compliment to your dinner. Everyone on the team agreed that SD’s dishes were very well prepared, presentation was skilled and the portion size filling. When you search the menu for your choices you will be impressed with there dynamic selection of Asian cuisine dishes, to a comprehensive wine list to accompany your dinner.
Dessert was a pleasant surprise, it’s been sometime since I’ve seen peanut swirl ice cream on a menu, very sweet just the way I like it. As I took a glance, I saw many fancy desserts on our table like chocolate angel food cake and a lemon meringue tart that received high marks.
I highly recommend making your reservations early as they do get crowded. It was great way to end a full day of shopping, sightseeing and yes some work while in the city.
FF readers, if you’re looking to satisfy your craving for excellent Vietnamese food that comes with good service and stunning views while in the city, then make your reservation at The Slanted Door for an incredible dining experience.
