Chevalier’s French Restaurant

Hello Everyone,
Yeah, it’s that time again. I think after this category we’ve gone around the block and have done at least one in each food category. Needless to say, I’ve put a few pounds on and I do anticipate putting a few extra with our next category. Ah, it’s time to search out and review one of my favorite places to visit in Europe that is France. With that said, a few of us on the FF team ventured out and paid a visit to Chevalier’s French Restaurant located at 960 Moraga Road in Lafayette.

I’ve actually seen the chef/owner stir some amazing things on TV so when we viewed our selection of French Restaurants to review, we thought we’d take a drive to Chevalier and indulge in some French fine dining. The menu is quite extensive with many traditional and modern dishes to choose from.

When it comes to me and appetizers there’s no second place to Chevalier’s Les Escargots de Bourgogne, burgundy shells served with butter, parsley and garlic. The selling point for me with this is it needs to be cooked perfectly, that night it was right on. Give me a half a loaf of French bread for soaking and that would make me very happy. Unfortunetly, I can’t write a review only about bread and snails. For starters we also ordered one of our group favorites - Les Moules Marinieres, some succulent steamed mussels with shallots served with garlic, parsley and white wine. We thought, we’d stop there on the starters, so we could save room later for dessert.

Obviously, no meal would be complete at Chevalier’s with out a bottle of wine. I really was wanting a nice red merlot that night, so with our server’s suggestion I went with the Merlot Red Rock 2006 California to accompany my meal. Folks, regardless of what type of food you desire, I compliment Chevalier for stocking such a fine selection of wines and Champagne. As I mentioned, I did go with the Montana Natural skirt steak that was pan seared with burgundy wine and a tasty shallot sauce served with another one of my favorite foods to eat French fries. I also had the Salade de Betteraves Roties, Féta et Noix a healthy salad that included roasted beets, feta cheese, walnuts, English peas and tasty cherry vinaigrette. One of the guests we had with us that night suggested I try her Braised Rabbit, which was excellent, served with Chablis wine along with mushrooms and tarragon.

My steak was cooked perfect, not chewy, very tender and moist with each bite. Our server was very attentive that night making sure our meal was meeting our expectations. It’s nice to be checked on by your server and yet not have them just step right up and interrupt a conversation. It was obvious the staff at Chevalier’s were professional and very helpful. . thank you! That night we all agreed that Chevalier’s is French cuisine at it’s finest with its classy presentation and delightful taste. When it came to dessert, I usually go with French standard dessert being the Crème Brulee made with vanilla bean from bourbon, oh so good. I did sneak a bite from someone’s Grand Marnier soufflé this ran a neck to neck race with my Brulee.

Everyone, whether your taking that someone special out or perhaps that special event or even a family night out, stop by this charming French dining establishment, for an incredible dining experience. At Chevalier’s you will be treated to great service, entrée presentations only seen in parts of France, portions that will leave you full yet yearning to try a fine dessert. Keep in mind about Chevalier’s, once you go, you will always want to come back – I know we are!
