Sabieng Thai Cuisine
Hello Everyone,Recently, while were enjoying some nice weather in the Bay Area, some of the FF team thought we drive down and spend some time in Santa Cruz and hang on the beach for awhile. Since we’re over the hill, why not take care of a little business and do our next review. Enough said – we were all craving Thai so we stopped Sabieng Thai Cuisine Restaurant located at 1218 Mission Street in Santa Cruz.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Sabieng, especially with there lunch specials, one item, that includes rice and soup for around $6 bucks.
It was early Saturday evening and Sabieng was already happening. The place was hustling, with tourist and locals, really looked the place to get to for Thai food. Our wait was only about 15 minutes and then we were seated by one of the staff who was very personable and thanked us for waiting. After being seated, service was rather quick.
When it got down to a visual on the menu, I can tell that Sabieng is in the low to moderate price range, depending on portions of course.
Most of us order Thai Ice Tea, which is usually very good, today was no exception, very tasty. We thought we’d start with some quenching appetizers first, like; grilled mussels, spring rolls along with one of my favorites, salmon rolls. All of our appetizers came out the same time, all were fresh and delicious, especially my salmon rolls!
For our main entrée’s we thought we’d order a bunch of food and share it. It’s usually a fun thing to do and you know what they say, variety is the spice of life. With that said, let the order begin; we went with, Green Curry with Chicken and Pork, fillet of Salmon in peanut curry, sweet and sour fish which was a tender piece of sole with garlic chili sauce. From the BBQ menu we went with the roasted duck, a must when visiting Sabieng. When it comes to rice, hands down the pineapple rice was my favorite – it included chicken and prawns, sweet pea’s pineapple and eggs. I noticed they had a good selection of beers that included both Thai and American selections. The wine list was one of the better one’s I’ve seen at a Thai restaurant including one of my favorites. . Plum wine.
The best part about sharing is I really don’t get filled that much which leaves the door open to some tasty desserts. Of course my first choice is their FBI (Fried Banana with ice cream) very sweet and refreshing and only $3.95.
Folks, if you need to satisfy you’re craving for Thai food and you’re in the Santa Cruz area is sure to stop of Sabieng Thai Restaurant. What you will get is very friendly and attentive service, above average portions and some really good Thai food from a staff that knows what its customers expect.
FF Team!
