In a breakthrough to aesthetic medicine, the FotoFacial procedure takes less than 30 minutes, using light energy to pulse and penetrate deep into the skin. It reduces age lines and skin redness and the procedure is pain-free. With a practice in Beverly Hills and Los Gatos California, Dr. Patrick Bitter Jr. does many FotoFacial treatments to his own clients, estimating that 20,000 are done daily throughout the United States. All over the country doctors are providing this service to their patients, highlighting patient satisfaction and a need for the service. Dr. Bitter has shown broadband light technology to improve damaged skin through non-invasive procedures; the strengths of the procedure has been well-documented. Observations have been made that over the years, skin repeatedly treated with the FotoFacial procedure looks better and actually decreases the aging process, especially when compared to skin not treated with FotoFacial treatments.

The FotoFacial procedure first showed promise for slowing signs of aging at the World Congress for Anti-Aging Medicine in April of 2010, when dermatologist Dr. Bitter Jr, highlighted what the procedure could do. \"This is one of the most exciting new observations in aesthetic medicine - that a simple, no downtime, fifteen minute facial treatment performed two to four times per year can actually slow skin aging,\" he said. Bitter was also quoted as saying that the FotoFacial with pulsating light technology or broadband light technology is the closes we have come to finding a proverbial \'Fountain of Youth.\'

Over a period of a little more than a decade, Dr. Bitter observed that patients with regular FotoFacial treatments had skin that not only was better than their pre-surgery skin but appeared more youthful and had fewer wrinkles and / or age spots, even though they were significantly older than when they first started getting the treatments. These patients were studied from an eight to eleven year period.

Dr. Bitter has always been known as the pioneer of the FotoFacial procedure and has a good majority of his own clients that undergo the treatment; he himself has performed thousands of treatments. For five plus years, Dr. Bitter has followed the post-treatment story of many of his patients. Many of his clients have gone on to have subsequent FotoFacials done to combat aging with youthful features. With patient observations, Dr. Bitter learned many things about his breakthrough procedure. His first observation is one that would seemingly be the easiest to learn even without observation - better skin went hand in hand with multiple treatments. The more times one undergoes the procedure, the younger skin appeared. No matter the patient age, they would get positive results from the treatment. Other observations were that skin anywhere on the body, not just the face, will look younger after laser treatment. The final observation and the most important of all, the one that brings FotoFacial to the forefront of popularity and success, is that FotoFacial takes less than half an hour to perform and shows no visual or physical side affects. There is no redness or swelling, no weeks of healing or weeks of bandages. Dr Bitter says that for optimal results, it is best to have treatments done two to four times a year. Of his patients studied, Dr. Bitter determined that over an eight to eleven year time frame they had treatments done twenty three to thirty three times, an average of three FotoFacials every year. According to Dr. Bitter, the optimal frequency of treatments is every three to six months.

Bitter noted that the delegation of treatments from many physicians to their less skilled assistants is one of the main reasons the benefits to the procedure were not discovered sooner than they were. By performing FotoFacial via laser lights and having the punctures directly penetrate the skin, technique is not only able to be refined easily and often, but physicians also get the added benefit of being able to directly see the effects of the treatment. Broadband light technology (BBL) is the best of all the light-based technologies, said Bitter, who has worked with many different technologies from medical laser companies. In order to allow each treatment to be customized to individual patient conditions, BBL technology is able to draw upon multiple choices of settings. Depending on skin sensitivity or age of the patient or even past medical history, if that is applicable, doctors administering the FotoFacial are able to use BBL technology to take into account all those factors and best serve the patient. Broadband light technology is fast, allowing lights to instantly puncture deep into the skin for optimal results. It is up to ten times faster than other technologies, allowing for improved results due to being able to penetrate larger areas of skin and even penetrate an area more than once if needed. For the physician performing the FotoFacial, there is no “consumable cost” with BBL. Treatment for patient’s costs much less which allows them to get the procedure done up to four times a year if it is affordable for them. Dr. Bitter has been quoted as stating that \"two FotoFacial treatments on the face per year costs less than many women spend on cosmetics every three months.\" Furthermore, the good doctor stressed there is no lotion or jar of face cream, no matter what the costs, that will do for your skin what a single FotoFacial treatment is able to do.

One of Dr. Bitter\'s final claims on the subject of FotoFacial is this: \"It is hard to imagine a man or woman in their forties who would not be interested in undergoing simple and safe and non-invasive medical procedure to keep their skin appearing young and youthful.” Two to four times per year, FotoFacial is affordable and only lasts fifteen minutes per treatment.\" He believes that FotoFacial treatments will become the key of the future to staying youthful.

Though other physicians have begun to implement this technique, Bitter\'s conclusions about the long-term successes of FotoFacial have not been agreed upon by his colleagues. It is not known if Bitter\'s colleagues follow the same bedside manner as Bitter; that is, do they spend time with the patient, more than the cursory initial consultation, to best determine the treatment pattern with the highest rate of success? With FotoFacial becoming more and more popular due to no post-treatment effects and a fast treatment time, physicians will be using this process more to a higher population of patients and must find a way to make each treatment a success. Using laser technology to penetrate the skin is a nicer alternative to surgery or Botox or other methods, and with more patients creating more business due to word-of-mouth, FotoFacial stands a great chance of becoming more popular than even Dr. Bitter would have guessed.

The last word is that, at the end of the day, Dr. Bitter is a Dermatologist that wanted to combat different effects of skin aging – with FotoFacial; he has done that and more. The procedure is such that it speaks for itself as to its successes, and as the years have gone by, patients have gone back for more because they like the results. They like the idea of remaining young, at least superficially, in an industry that does not always appreciate aging.

A photo is worth a thousand words. A photo is a moment in time. A photo is a million different clichés.

With FotoFacial, the clichés come true. FotoFacial tries to make that moment in time last for as long as possible.
