Tacos Al Pastor

Recently, the FF team dined at a restaurant I probably pass by 5 times a day – this time we put the brakes on to dine at Tacos Al Pastor located at 400 S. Bascom Ave in San Jose.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Tacos Al Pastor, and wanted to check it out as I’m a big fan of Mexican food. I’ve received several emails recently asking to cover some restaurants in the Bay Area that offer a good family cooking at a recession price. After dinner at this awesome Mexican restaurant, I can tell you it’s one of the best deals in town; that includes service, quality and quantity of food that doesn’t break the bank. How about tasty Tamale (pork or chicken) for $1.99?

Just step right up you will see a lighted menu that covers everything from side orders, to combination plates, seafood dinners, several Taco and Burrito choices plus a half dozen soup choices. They also feature a kids meal along with Breakfast (yep, they open at 9:00 7 days a week). Tacos Al Pastor doesn’t miss a beat on their drink selections either; they have fountain drinks, bottled soda, along with some tropical drinks and of course Mexican sodas. And for those of you that may have had a tough day, they have a fine selection of domestic and imported beers including Modelo – one of my favorites.

We ordered a side of Nachos’ with shredded chicken, along with a combo plate of Enchiladas and one huge Burrito. The waitress taking our order was nice to let us know we may want to scale back and do a half order of Nacho’s since they come in large portion.

After you place your order (for those of you dining in) you will have your choice of comfortable seating in a scenic setting with murals of various places south of the border. There’s also a big screen in the main dining area, which we were thankful for (Go Giants!). If your dining in you will be offered complimentary chips and salsa – the chips came fresh and the salsa (made daily) is zesty.

In a few minutes, this huge half plate of Nachos’ came to our table – my first thought is I want to save my appetite for the Enchilada’s however theses Nachos’ had my mouth watering, made perfect with cheese dripping over the chips, blanketed with Chicken, beans and Jalapeño peppers.

In the end, I finished my Taco Chico, it was small served on a Tortilla, with there signature Al Pastor Pork which is perfectly seasoned and tasty. I cleaned my plate of two Chicken Enchiladas, served with rice and beans. I also had a bite of the super Burrito served with fresh avocado, chicken, beans, pico topped with enchilada sauce. Honestly, you can get a couple of meals out of there super Burrito.

This week, we certainly uncovered a gem in Tacos Al Pastor. I suggest you stop by and enjoy some of their lunch specials they have during the week, or perhaps take the family out for a night of family style authentic Mexican food cooked up fresh daily.

Tacos Al Pastor is certainly one of the best choices in the area for Mexican food – there easy to find, at 400 S. Bascom Ave in San Jose just a block from San Carlos with plenty of parking.

FF Team!
