The Fish Market

A few Saturday’s back (did that sound right?) the FF team rocked into The Fish Market located at 1855 S. Norfolk St. in San Mateo.

We went with no reservations, put our name down and invaded the bar. Everyone on the team was happy to see it was a full bar while we waited for a table. Personally, I’ve never been to the San Mateo location, seemed very casual and family oriented. Much to our surprise our wait was less than 20 minutes, just enough time to work up an appetite for those famous Fish Market oysters!

While at the bar it was brought to our attention to check out their happy hour during the week. Apparently, Monday night is the best bang for the buck – you can get a heck of a deal on oysters on the half shell along with your favorite wine/beer and well drinks past the normal happy hour time. . call and check, I think they said it goes until 9:00 or so on Monday’s. You know our line, “Monday’s Suck” so the FF team will be making another visit to The Fish Market one Monday soon.

Not everyone on the FF team was happy to hear we were going to start with oysters, so we backed it with some of their famous cheesy garlic bread and mixed seafood appetizer which consisted of scallops, prawns and yes more oysters.

I started out with some clam chowder I found amazing. I then moved on to my main squeeze, “Seafood Marinara” a fabulous assortment of fin fish soaked in garlic and red wine.

Also on the table was a nice looking swordfish with potatoes and rice, I grabbed a bite, found the fish and potatoes to be well seasoned.

Overall, we had a great time and found The Fish Market a nice place to have a seafood dinner while you overlook the water – you may want to sit outside, it has a great view.

Very well priced, lots of options in the menu, good service, excellent atmosphere with a nice view, it can get crowded and parking may get tough however, it’s well worth it!

FF Team!
