Last Saturday night we saw the phenomenal Whoppi Goldberg at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. She played to a packed audience.

It’s been several years since I’ve been in the auditorium, the seats had been redone and were fairly comfortable, however not a lot of leg space. They had two large screens on the right and left sides of the stage. The show was a bit short – about an hour in length; however she was funny as ever. Her topics are things we could relate to – lots of good stuff on current humor events. Top of the list was laying into Arnold Schwarzenegger and Anthony Weiner. If you’re OK with a little foul language and the occasional “f” word then her humor kept you laughing. There was also a serious side, when she spoke about different stages in her life and the recent passing of her mother.

She spent a considerable amount of time on various politicians such as President Obama, and former president George W. Bush. Some of her material really got the audience laughing; certain topics like a woman\'s menstrual cycle, race, cigarettes, farts and menopause – it seemed the audience was very comfortable with the topics.

In her past performances the audience was given the opportunity to ask questions to Whoppi with microphones placed throughout the audience. This time the audience submitted questions in writing. A host directed the Q&A portion which seemed to last longer than her stand up routine. Whoppi was pretty candid with her answers the only question she avoided was why she changed her given name.

At the end of the evening, Whoppi was brilliant, funny and unforgettable!
