There are indeed many wonderful non-profits, all of which are wonderful causes, all doing great things for many people in and for our community. One all-time favorite is this, our Bay Area\'s own: The Family Giving Tree. The Family Giving Tree was created back in 1990, where the Queen Elf herself and all fellow Elves have continually brought so much in happiness and joy to oh so many - just how Santa himself would want.

The vision of The Family Giving Tree Elves is to envision a world where every child feels like a valuable part of their community through a national belief in the power of giving. The mission of The Family Giving Tree fulfills the exact holiday wish and also provides backpacks filled with school supplies to those children in the most need in our communities while inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy and volunteerism.

The Family Giving Tree was founded back when, coming as an idea, from a personal wish and passion, and then a call to action. Jennifer Cullenbine and Todd Yoshida took on wholeheartedly and created this concept as an MBA class project while they were students attending San Jose State University: a class project that would \"create a program that adds value to someone else\'s life.\"

For this project, with this concept in mind, they created The Family Giving Tree with the hope of providing holiday gifts to 300 children in East Palo Alto. Encouraged by the success of the first year, Jennifer decided to continue and expand the organization. Now in the 21st year of the program\'s existence, The Family Giving Tree serves more than 250 Social Service Agencies and Schools, works together with more than 900 host companies and appreciates more than 7,000 volunteers ... and the total number of gifts and backpacks donated has grown to over 700,000, making The Family Giving Tree the largest gift and backpack donation program in California.

You may have seen Family Giving Trees everywhere you go, work, walk, shop, bank, work out, visit professional offices or go to services. Everywhere, and for everyone, it\'s about making such a positive difference in people\'s lives. Love is in the air - there is so much joy in the receiving, as there is also in the giving. You can see it in everyone\'s smiles and also in everyone\'s hearts. This special spirit has sprouted, and exists, and much good for so many has continually, annually and joyfully sprouted from this.

If you have a Family Giving Tree and already participate and / or volunteer, you will know first-hand of this special organization, and feeling, and thank you. If possibly not yet, perhaps you will want to consider and look into it - i.e. hosting a Family Giving Tree, and possibly sharing and /or volunteering. All is heartedly welcome and also so gratifying (both ways). Here, clearly, is an example of how (and because) from a single thought, an idea, a concept - and then much team spirit and community effort, our coming together - has thankfully and beautifully come so much good. Thank you for all that you do, everyone in, around and about The Family Giving Tree.
