You talk about passing the time away, I can spend hours in this gen on Castro street. I also come here I buy candles and incense.
Whenever I meet my mom in downtown MV I always stop in to check on upcoming events, always good to listen to an author's lecture and what inspired them to write a particular title.

Adobe Bookshop

Hands done one of the best bookstores in SF. The have just about everything with exhibition space for local artist, who actually come out along with poets. Bottom line if your into old books and want to take in a funky show in the back room, it's Adobe Bookshop!

Half Price Books

When I moved to Fremont and discovered HPB I stopped going to Barnes & Noble. These guys have a great selection at a lot less $$$$. I always stop by and check out a clearance rack they put out, found some good stuff. Oh, don't forget to sip some of that free coffee they offer.

Moe's Bookstore

This place is probably one of the best in the Bay Area. They have a great selection of new/used and rare books. Plenty of music on hand, plus sheet music. I usually spend a lot of money has I go hang out on my lunch hours a few times a week. Great staff that knows there books!
